Lyrically told in a way that makes the heat, the colors, and the smells of Spain feel alive, Small Damages is a feast for the heart and the soul, and a coming-of-age novel not easily forgotten. Eighteen year old Kenzie is pregnant, grieving, at a crossroad in her life, when her mother arranges for Kenzie to travel to Spain for the eventual birth and adoption of her child/5.

In terms of drama and adventure, you can't get much better than that. Perhaps, though, SMALL DAMAGES by Beth Kephart is heavier on the drama parts than on the travel parts, although the fact that this book is set in SPAIN-one of my favorite places-sets /5(22).

The main characters of this young adult, contemporary story are Kenzie Spitzer,/5. Small Damages has everything that I love about Young Adult (and New Adult) contemporaries and I know that this will not be the last book by Beth Kephart that I will read.

There is a reason that readers and authors such as Ruta Sepetys (of Between Shades of Gray fame) are raving about this book. For pressing at home, you could put the book under a stack of other books or if you have weights of some sort (IE: weightlifting) you could put those on top (best to put something hard & flat on the top and bottom of the book also - so you won't get a dent from the weights and so the full page will get equal weight.

"Small Damages is a great book that explores relationships and making choices. The writing and characters are all well-done, and I really enjoyed this read." The writing and characters are all well-done, and I really enjoyed this read.".

August In a unique slant on a fairly common subject, year-old Kenzie finds herself pregnant. Her boyfriend's response is "What are you going to do?" Her mother's response is to pack Kenzie off to Spain where adoptive parents await. Of course, Kenzie has her own response to the twist in her story and what it is may well surprise both her and the readers of this subtly stunning tale.

SMALL DAMAGES, Kenzie's story of that summer as told to her daughter, finds her learning new things and discovering new possibilities among the people and places she gets to know during her trip. Continue reading Show less5/5.

Small Damages is well written, with interesting characters and an exotic setting. Readers will be pleasantly surprised by the twist at the end of the novel, one that completes Kenzie's transformation from a girl who found herself unexpectedly pregnant to a young woman in control of her destiny.

Book Details: Small Damages by Beth Kephart. Beth Kephart structures Small Damages in an incredibly realistic manner. Kenzie’s controlled scattering of thoughts and emotions are perfectly illustrated, while Kenzie herself is rendered in a quiet prose that speaks volumes—like a flame that starts out burning bright and then slowly begins to fade until it looks as if it will extinguish.
